Just imagine arriving new to a country with 1-year-old twins, a 3-year-old, and a 5-year-old?
What would be some of your immediate needs as you step off the plane?
The answer: gathering very practical items, such as diapers for the twins, safe car seats for all four kids, and household items to set-up your new home. “When the local church steps up and does something like Westwood did with their holiday initiative, together we are able to share the hope and care of God by welcoming the stranger well.”
Thankfully for one large family from the Former Soviet Union, a generous local church community gathered a whole slew of diapers, car seats, gift cards and more, through setting up a registry at Target.
Westwood Church created an efficient and helpful online registry over the holidays to donate Welcome Kit supplies for Arrive Ministries, much like a wedding registry.
Tears of gratitude flowed from this family when they received the basic household items supplied by our welcome kits.
“This family really appreciated the way these new items made them feel welcomed and cared for,” said Laura, Arrive Ministries’ Volunteer Coordinator.
All refugees have immeasurable worth in the eyes of God, and donating welcome kits items is a tangible way to love them well through the gift of setting up a new home.
“When the local church steps up and does something like Westwood did with their holiday initiative, together we are able to share the hope and care of God by welcoming the stranger well,” said Laura.
