After meeting with a newly arrived family from Moldova, I found out that two of the daughters and their mom are passionate about sewing and they even have degrees in Apparel Design from Moldova’s capital city of Chisinau.
We began working on how to convert centimeters to inches, and I helped them write their resumes. Through God’s blessing, I was able to meet the owner of a drapery store in Edina, and all three of them were hired part-time in February. They were thrilled to keep working in their field of expertise.
Their mom worries that her work is not perfect, but let me tell you, it really is!
Their knowledge of English and comfort sewing using the American standard measurement system kept growing until COVID-19 happened, when the girls were not able to go into work during the first few months of Minnesota’s Stay at Home order.
Recently, it was a pleasant surprise when they finally were able to not only get back to work, but also received more hours and new responsibilities. Their manager told me, “The girls seem to be doing great and are very flexible. Their mom worries that her work is not perfect, but let me tell you, it really is!”
