This winter we will be celebrating SALT Director Mike Neterer’s transition to a new ministry opportunity, an international organization focusing on language development opportunities in Somalia.
As the founder and Director of SALT for 18 years, Mike developed this relationship-based program that has served the local Somali community through friendship and tutoring. The idea for SALT was conceived nearly two decades ago from a local Somali believer. The program was integrated into Arrive Ministries soon after under the leadership of Mike Neterer, and continues to be an integral part of Arrive Ministries as we seek to mobilize the Church to share the love of Christ with our refugee and immigrant neighbors.
We appreciate Mike’s gifts as he has shared his vision, leadership and heart for Jesus with all those he works with at Arrive! We credit much of the longevity of the SALT program and the significant role it is having in the local Somali community to Mike’s prayerful dedication to loving our Somali neighbors well.
Please join us in praying for and congratulating Mike! His last day with SALT will be December 31, 2021, although he plans to remain a consultant to the SALT team.
Arrive Ministries is starting the process of hiring a new SALT Director and we certainly appreciate your prayers and support.
SALT continues to grow in reach and influence. We’re building our volunteer base to meet the demands of 80+ Somali families requesting English tutoring. Our Homework Help program is expanding as we assist school children, many of whom come from Somali backgrounds. In addition, we expect to see a resurgence in the pace of Somali refugee arrivals beginning in 2022.
A note from Mike Neterer, SALT Director:
Keep an eye out for November’s Dash of SALT where I will be sharing my reflections on these past 18 years, and the very unique role that SALT has had in our community, and will continue to play in the future.
Thank you for the hours you have spent tutoring, praying for, and encouraging Somali families. Thank you for all you have done – and are doing – to share the love of Jesus through literacy and friendship with our Somali neighbors.
