We have some very creative and resourceful partners at Arrive Ministries.
Timothy started scouring Facebook Marketplace and Buy Nothing Groups to pick up high-quality furniture for free.
I realized there is huge potential for “locally sourced” furniture from individuals rather than going to an organization like Bridging.”
Timothy blesses our staff by doing the “heavy lifting” of picking up and delivering the furniture to our office with the assistance of some sturdy moving straps.
“One thing that always makes me laugh: is people’s eyes when I pull up in my compact SUV to pick up a long couch or giant table! I discovered you don’t need a truck, just a commitment to stack things on top of your car.”
“I was also struck by how much people were genuinely excited to be part of this by passing their dressers, tables, and chairs on to newly arriving families! Sometimes I would stop to pick up a table and the person donating it would begin scouring their storage for other quality furniture that would be helpful. I like how this brings out people’s generosity and openness to new neighbors.”
Another example of a creative partner is Mr. S. who hand-carved wooden cars for each refugee child who arrives through Arrive Ministries.
Mr. S. even includes special touches on each wooden car, including an Arrive Ministries logo, and on the flip side, each family’s last name is branded to personalize the toy.
Challenge: Do you have any creative or clever ways you can show love and hospitality to our new refugee neighbors?
