Congratulations to Mike Neterer on earning his MA in Language and Culture Studies from Dallas International University.

His thesis, “Jiiddu Language Development: A Seventy Year Journey, 1951-2021” focuses on the Jiiddu language community of Southwest Somalia, and is the product of long-term relationships with Jiiddu speakers, both in Minnesota and Somalia. His thesis was written in response to the Jiiddu community’s request to “help us preserve our linguistic heritage,” which is currently considered endangered.

Congratulations to Mike on his hard work. May it bear fruit in Southwest Somalia and beyond!
