A mother and her two young sons with special medical needs spent time at the Children’s Hospital recently and had such a supportive and comprehensive experience with their team of medical professionals. Our case manager was there to support the family and shared that the medical team treated the family with so much compassion and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. The medical team was comforting to the mom, and the doctor made the boys laugh as they practiced breathing into a breathing tube for an assessment; even the interpreter and mom were laughing.
The family was excited to see all of the creative decorations at the hospital, and the boys loved watching the cartoon, Bluey, in the waiting room! The boys completed a variety of tests and visited with a number of specialists, and they will have follow-up appointments every few months to monitor their conditions. This is a big change from the lack of medical support they received in the refugee camp, where the boys were born. In the United States, the boys will receive consistent medical attention, and the parents will be able to call the specialist 24/7 if there are questions or an emergency.
