A family originally from Africa was recently referred to Arrive Ministries for supportive services. Before enrolling the family into our programs, staff visited them to perform an assessment.
They learned that the family was resettled as refugees to Minnesota by another organization in 2023. Upon arrival, they had limited community connections due to their unique language and ethnicity. Two years later, they continued to demonstrate resilience as additional obstacles slowed their adjustment to life in the U.S. This family struggled to secure enough income to provide for their large family, and a new baby complicated the ability for mom to work, and they temporarily had to live at a homeless shelter.
During the assessment, staff were able to encourage this family and identify key areas where our programs would offer support. We assisted them with securing an apartment and provided beds, linens, and kitchen items. Our Education Programs staff provided orientation sessions on financial literacy and community resources, and the mom and baby will be provided with Intensive Case Management services.
In May, a Good Neighbor team from a nearby church met this family to walk alongside them in friendship. The support of this expanded community will be significant as they find stability, opportunity, and enduring hope.
