Our volunteers often get to rejoice with their newly arrived friends as they get their first jobs, pass their driver’s test, and celebrate holidays. Along with rejoicing together, sometimes, as Paul instructed in Romans 12, we are to mourn with those who mourn.
All our hearts were (are) heavy. We showed up to listen and lament with them.
“We took nearly nine minutes to read through the attacks on the Hazara people just since 2016. All our hearts were (are) heavy. We showed up to listen and lament with them. Psalm 13 was read. I think I speak for each person in attendance when I say we felt quite powerless in the face of these atrocities. As the Body of Christ, we can stand with our Muslim friends, learning from, advocating for, and pray with them in their time of pain. We will pray. We will share. And we will trust Jesus can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Lord, may Your kingdom come here and now.”
