Do you have a dream job or a career you’ve always wanted?
Since Reza, an Afghan man, was little he dreamt of being a helicopter pilot. In 2020, Reza was pursuing his dream and was stationed for military flight training in Slovakia until a turn of events occurred.
“When the Taliban took over Afghanistan, some officials from the U.S. Embassy came and talked to us and we were 84 people from Afghanistan in Slovakia. They said that we have no choice but to send you to the U.S.,” said Reza.
Unable to go back to his home country or continue training, Reza found himself resettling in the U.S. and starting a new life in Minnesota – a major adjustment! Even though the frigid cold didn’t phase him, finding a job in the U.S. posed as a more unfamiliar experience. Briana, our Employment Counselor, was able to meet with Reza and help him understand the process.
“Since I was new to the U.S. I had no idea about jobs in the U.S. Briana helped me a lot, and took me to job fairs to learn about the jobs in the U.S.,” said Reza.
Reza now works hard to provide for his family back in Afghanistan – but he hasn’t given up on his dream. He would eventually like to join the U.S. Army and finish his helicopter training once he gets his green card!
With the skills of a helicopter pilot and the ability to adjust to a new country, Reza is an inspiring example of what it means to persevere and never give up!
