A New Life in a New Country, Olena’s Reflection

December 28, 2023

Good day everyone! I want to tell the story of my stay in America.

On February 28, 2021, our family: me, my husband, and our three children (17, 14, and 7 years old) flew to Minneapolis, Minnesota. We flew through Chicago, they took our passports for verification, and fingerprints. Arriving here, we had no relatives, no friends, no acquaintances. Several relatives live in other states, so we made friends and acquaintances in Minnesota on the spot.

Within our first two months, we completed all the necessary documents, including medical insurance, passed a medical examination, and passed a test for tuberculosis. For 2 months we lived in temporary housing, and on May 1st we rented an apartment. We ourselves found a job, the children were placed in school. We are very satisfied with the schools here, great attention is paid to children and their development, full and healthy meals are provided.

My husband works for a company doing electronics, I work at the University of Minnesota in a research clinic. We really like the work and good pay, but we strive for the best.

We take a free online courses in English, Mondays through Thursdays for 2.5 hours, despite a good level.

People in Minneapolis are very nice and pleasant, the city is beautiful and cozy”

People in Minneapolis are very nice and pleasant, the city is beautiful and cozy, especially in the warm season. We would like to express our gratitude to the Arrive Ministries, which supports us financially and morally, and to Oleksii, our Case Manager, for his competence in his work, patience, communication, and respect for our family.

This assistance is very valuable and necessary when you start a new life in a new country with your family.”
