The Growing Participator Approach (GPA), endorsed by Wycliffe, is one of the most effective ways to learn language fluently. We have adapted this approach to also accommodate those teaching a language!
Many of our volunteers are connecting with their refugee background friends by helping them practice English. Other volunteers have expressed interest in learning some phrases in Karen, Somali, Swahili, or Russian. We all know that language allows us to connect at a deeper level.
Join us for this practical and interactive volunteer training where we share fundamentals of language learning. This approach is suitable for all learning types, is a communicative style, and patterned after child language acquisition. Whether you’re teaching a friend English or want to learn some phrases in a new language, this training will provide you with tools to dive deeper.
Speaker: Melissa Petersen is the Outreach Developer for Somali Adult Literacy Training (SALT), Arrive Ministries’ program focused on engaging Somalis through literacy and friendship. She is a Wycliffe trained literacy specialist with a wealth of knowledge concerning teaching and learning other languages.
