“Are you a teacher? Can you teach me English?”
Susan had recently finished tutoring one of her regular SALT (Somali Adult Literacy Training) students.
When waking through the parking lot, a car pulled up beside her and a Somali woman lowered the window.
“Are you a teacher?” she asked. “Can you teach me English?”
Susan had never met the woman before, but agreed to meet with Safiya.
Since that encounter, Susan and Safiya have developed a cross-cultural friendship while discussing the beliefs of America’s Founding Fathers.
